Conference Theme:

Patient and Family-Centered Care in a Digital-Driven World

Introduction

The evolution of patient and family centered care in a digital driven world encompasses a wide range of innovations and considerations, including the integration of virtual documentation to support bedside care, the use of electronic health records to enable shared decision making and the growing role of mobile health apps and wearable technologies in empowering patients.

As healthcare environments become increasingly technology-driven, maintaining empathy, compassion and personal connection remains essential, alongside navigating the ethical complexities of digital patient interactions. Digital platforms now play a vital role in engaging families through tools that support care planning, enable virtual family conferences and help overcome cultural and language barriers.

At the same time, safeguarding patient and family data, fostering trust in AI driven decision-making and ensuring adherence to global digital health regulations are critical priorities. Empowering nurses through digital literacy, leadership in patient centred technologies and continuous professional development supports this transformation. Meanwhile, emerging innovations such as AI enabled predictive analytics, virtual and augmented reality for patient education and automation in family centred nursing continue to shape the future of care.

Message from the Conference Chairperson

Cora Lessing, Conference Chairperson

Dear Esteemed Nursing Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 3rd Mediclinic Middle East International Nursing and Midwifery Specialty Conference 2026, a gathering of passionate professionals, innovators and advocates from around the world, hosted here in the UAE.

This year, we unite under the inspiring theme: “Patient and Family-Centred Care in a Digital-Driven World.”

As healthcare continues to evolve rapidly in the digital era, nurses remain at the forefront, bridging advanced technologies with the human touch that defines our profession. This conference offers a valuable opportunity to explore and exchange ideas on how digital innovation can strengthen, rather than diminish, our connection to patients and families. Together, we will listen, learn and engage in meaningful discussions on how to ensure compassion, empathy and partnership remain central in an increasingly technology-enabled environment.

Our scientific programme highlights six key subtopics that address the most pressing opportunities and challenges shaping modern nursing practice:

  1. 1 Digital Transformation in Patient-Centred Care
Exploring innovations such as virtual documentation support, seamless EHR integration and the empowering role of mobile health solutions and wearable technologies.
  2. 2 Humanising Care in a Technology-Driven Environment
Reflecting on how we preserve authentic human connection, uphold ethical standards and sustain empathy in virtual and hybrid care settings.
  3. 3 Family Engagement Through Digital Platforms
Understanding how digital communication, virtual family conferences and culturally sensitive tools can strengthen family involvement in care planning.
  4. 4 Data Privacy, Security and Trust
Addressing the critical importance of safeguarding sensitive information and building confidence in AI-driven and digital health solutions globally.
  5. 5 Training and Empowering Nurses for Digital Care
Focusing on digital literacy, leadership in technology adoption and continuous professional development to equip nurses for the future of healthcare.
  6. 6 Innovations and Future Trends
Looking ahead to emerging advancements - from AI and predictive analytics to virtual and augmented reality, and automation in family-centred nursing.

Throughout this conference, you will have opportunities to share your research, exchange best practices, engage in thought-provoking discussions and collaborate with peers who are shaping the future of our profession. I look forward to the rich dialogue and collective learning, that will emerge from the presentations, and to be inspired by each of the delegates.

Thank you for your commitment to advancing nursing practice and improving the lives of patients and families in our communities.

With warm regards,
Cora Lessing Mediclinic Middle East Nursing Executive
